Let us hold unwaveringly to our confession that gives us hope, for he who made the promise is trustworthy. Hebrews 10:23 NABRE
The Letter to the Hebrews declares Christ as our High Priest and that He once and for all sacrificed for our salvation. No other sacrifice is ever needed. In the section of the letter that includes the quoted verse the author is encouraging us to approach God. In the past we needed a mediator, a priest to approach God in the Holy Sanctuary, but Jesus has torn the curtain to the sanctuary so we may approach God on our own. It is an incredible privilege and we should take advantage of it. We have a great priest over the house of God, Jesus, and we should approach with a sincere heart, trust, clean spirit and purity. Then we must confess our hope! We must proclaim what God has done for us, and that we have hope. We look forward to a hopeful future reality, we look forward to the enjoyment of all the blessings promised by God. We look forward to being present with God face to face. We know this is true because the one who made the promise, God, is trustworthy. Jesus has changed reality, we meet God, we become pure, we have a radical new hope. Before Jesus no one expected to meet God, they always heard about God second hand. We have the privilege of meeting God on our own.
We know God well because of all that Jesus has done. We know that God is in our lives always. We must share this hope that we have so others who do not have hope may. A life without hope is unnecessary because Jesus has come to show us the future. Our responsibility is to declare our hope to all.
Do you meet God whenever you wish through prayer and praise? Can you imagine how much hope was brought to the lives of those who never had it?
