It is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when full-grown it is the largest of plants. It becomes a large bush, and the “birds of the sky come and dwell in its branches.” Matthew 13:32 NABRE
Jesus shares a parable where He compares the kingdom of heaven to a mustard seed, the proverbial smallest seed. Though the seed is small it grows into large bush where birds come and dwell. It is a parable which leads to several ideas, one that comes to mind; in the work for the kingdom of heaven no service, deed or action is too small that God can’t use it for a greater good, in fact a magnificent good by comparison of seed to bush. Therefore don’t think your small deed isn’t useful in bringing the kingdom of heaven. A second thought is how Jesus comes and sends out a small group to usher in the kingdom of heaven and it grows into a quarter of the world knowing and understanding Jesus’ message, this certainly has ushered in the beginnings of the kingdom of heaven. It makes the comparison of the small seed started by a few turning into a community of many people worldwide and growing. Additionally this parable speaks to me about the Kingdom. Jesus says birds come and dwell in the bush, as in the communities created by Jesus’ message should be attractive to draw unknowing and seeking people. If Christians are living the message of love that Jesus has prescribed, then by love alone people will be attracted to join.
Let no good deed pass without your action. Help others and put them first. You may think you are alone but God is able to turn any good into a tsunami of blessings. And always remember to love, it attracts others.
