John 6:36 – March 1, 2021

But I told you that although you have seen [me], you do not believe. John 6:36 NABRE

Jesus has fed thousands and afterward they seek him out, when the catch up to Him they ask when He arrived. Jesus knows they seek him because they ate their fill. Jesus feeds those hungry and they follow Him to have more. In the feeding Jesus performs a miracle of multiplication, but the people don’t care where the bread came from, only that Jesus is able to fill their stomachs. Jesus compares them to the Jews in the desert who ate manna from heaven everyday while they sojourned with Moses. They believe Moses was responsible for the food and compare Jesus to Moses, feeding them bread. Jesus corrects them, the manna was sent from heaven. The bread from God gives life and the people asks Jesus for this bread. But Jesus recognizes they do not believe, they see him, all they ever need, and they think only of their stomachs. Jesus is the bread of life, the Word of God sent by the Father who gives all we need in life. Jesus knows this teaching is hard to understand. We have trouble with it today. Jesus is the bread of life and if we consume Him we have life because Jesus is Bread, the Word, Shepherd, the Lamb of God, Firstborn, Light, Son, the Vine, the Way and many other attributes for life. Believing, we receive these blessings. But it is difficult to believe because it is difficult to understand, even those who have seen Jesus, His actions, do not believe.

We focus on our material needs, and often go beyond needs into wants and desires. But if we listen to Jesus everything we need is in Him including; food, love, leadership, sacrifice, inheritance, light, adoption, growth, and the way, all met by Him. We spend to much time working to live when we should be working toward Jesus.

What distracts you from full time belief? What is your life source?
