Psalms 68:19 – May 28, 2019

You went up to its lofty height; you took captives, received slaves as tribute, even rebels, for the LORD God to dwell. Psalms 68:19 NABRE

This psalm is a hymn that begins by proclaiming God’s power over His enemies, it then celebrates how the power is manifested and it ends by inviting the listener to acknowledge God’s power in heaven and in the temple. The main body of the psalm proclaims that the God of heaven dwells in the temple and from there protects His people. This psalm recalls the history of Israel, praising God and celebrating the temple in Jerusalem. For the people the temple was God in their midst. The quoted verse speaks about God returning to Mount Zion (the temple), returning in glory after defeating enemies, taking captives and slaves as tribute. God dwells there in glory. It is referenced by Paul in the letter to the Ephesians (4:8-13) when he speaks of Jesus ascending to glory, after the victory of the cross. God dwells among the people, he protects the people and then he resides in glory with victory assured. This is the same message that Jesus provides; Jesus lived, died, resurrected and then ascended to glory with those who were lost and now are saved. It is a beautiful message of God doing all things possible to protect and save His people.

God is true throughout history. He will do whatever He can to protect His people and then dwell among them in glory. We can count on God to be present in our lives and to protect us from all that would harm us. We should call on God daily, through prayer and petition, knowing that God has a soft spot for us and will do all He can to keep us safe. We should praise and thank God in response to His salvation.

Do you trust God to protect you daily? Do you allow God to come into your life and lead you where you should go to be safe and a dedicated follower?

We can count on God to be present in our lives and to protect us from all that would harm us. We should call on God daily. Click To Tweet
