Hebrews 12:2 – May 11, 2019

while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2 NABRE

This chapter of the Letter to the Hebrews begins noting there is a great cloud of witnesses. The verse speaks of the journey to meet Jesus as a race we are running. We should eliminate everything that can slow us down, any burden, any excess; like any attachment to possessions, worldly security, or praise from those around us and especially sin, anything that can hinder us from running the race unobstructed. The whole time we must keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter. Jesus blazed a faith trail and He makes all things perfect through newness. Jesus Himself fixed his eyes on the goal, for the sake of joy. In other words, although Jesus new the cross would be a struggle and suffering, he also knew it was joy to complete the mission the Father has sent him to complete. Although most of culture at the time saw the cross as punishment for slaves or thieves, Jesus had no shame because he knew his mission was God’s will. For His efforts Jesus was honored by God, given the highest seat, at God’s right on the throne, supreme honor and authority.

We too are meant to run as Jesus ran. Our goal is to spread the message of Jesus. We too should run with eyes fixed on Jesus, making others aware of Jesus. We’ll endure suffering, not as Jesus has but enough so we know we have been in a race. We’ll never be shamed speaking about Jesus and we’ll raise up the name of Jesus so that He receives the honor on earth that He does in heaven.

Do you see spreading the message of Jesus as competitive sport? Are you able to constantly press so that all meet Jesus?

We too are meant to run as Jesus ran. Our goal is to spread the message of Jesus. We too should run with eyes fixed on Jesus, making others aware of Jesus. Click To Tweet
