Psalms 56:4 – February 5, 2019

when I am afraid, in you I place my trust. Psalms 56:4 NABRE

Psalm fifty-six is a psalm praising God, asking for God’s help and depending on God. In the psalm the author is being pursued, it is as if he is losing the battle to his demons. It is a psalm where someone who has made some bad decisions is finding himself in over his head and he knows he must appeal to a larger force than himself. Perhaps it is an addiction; drugs, alcohol, pornography, gambling, over eating, seeking pain, shopping, sex, over working, or something else, something that has control and he is constantly aware of and can’t stop thinking about. Maybe it is something he feels guilty about from his past, someone he hurt, or something he did that took advantage of someone. He can’t stop thinking about this wrong he did. He works within himself to not fall victim to the habit or thought again but it is constantly present, constantly challenging him, reminding him he cannot escape. This habit, these thoughts they are his enemy, they keep him from doing good, being good in his own mind. He is two people, the one who wants heaven and the one who feels like he is slipping into hell. He begs God; help me God, rescue me, I am afraid and I put my trust in you. I know I have made promises, I know you have kept you bargains with me and I know my promises have not been kept. I need you!

God never abandons us, no matter how many times we slip back into bad habits, are distracted by bad thoughts, God is always there to bow down and lift us up. Is there something in your life that you did or do that is pulling you down? This psalm is for you, pray it and see the main prayer; God is your help, always. In the end God has saved you, trust God and live accepting God’s salvation.

Is there something you need to overcome? Have you asked for help? Can I help you?

God never abandons us, no matter how many times we slip back into bad habits, are distracted by bad thoughts, God is always there to bow down and lift us up. Click To Tweet
