1 Chronicles 16:34 – November 28, 2019

Give thanks to the LORD, who is good, whose love endures forever; 1 Chronicles 16:34 NABRE

Chronicles tells the history of the Jewish people. This section has David as King returning the Ark to Jerusalem and housing it in a tent which will be designated as a holy place of God. The Ark is a sacred object that represents the presence of God. It would include the tablets given at Sinai with the commandments from God, the staff of Moses and other special items related to their history with God. When David had the Ark returned to Jerusalem they held a liturgy of thanksgiving, which included remembrance of the wonders worked by God, thanksgiving, acknowledging God in all His works, and praise of the Lord, sharing in His glory, The chronicler includes a song to be sung to God as thanksgiving which begins, “Give thanks to the LORD, invoke his name; make known among the peoples his deeds. (1 Chronicles 16:8) Much of the song of thanks is assembled from the psalms. The quoted verse again stresses the need to give thanks and then reminds us that the Lord is good and His love endures forever. The people know the source of their grace and they know to be thankful, as well as glorify God.

We celebrate a day of Thanksgiving, for all the blessings we have as a country. We hear “God Bless America” and we know God has blessed America. We are a country with a richness of resources and hope of an ever improving life. We believe with hard work we can improve our life and in many ways this is more possible here than in other countries. We are the nation with the most wealth; almost a third of the world’s wealth, though we are approximately five percent of the world’s population. America is blessed and we should be thankful to God for all we have. Happy Thanksgiving America!

Why are you thankful? Do you thank God for all your blessings?
