Whoever acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him and he in God. 1 John 4:15 NABRE
God sent His only Son into the world and in this way the love of God was revealed. We have never see God but if we love one another then God remains in us and love is brought to perfection in us. God in us perfects love in us. As God loves us, we should love one another. This is how we know we remain in God and God remains in us. God has given us a Spirit of love. The Father sent his Son, therefore we must acknowledge His presence in us and by so doing God will remain in us and we will remain in Him. It is through the life and presence of the Son that we have come to know God, to know God’s love for us and to know God is in us His children. John in this section of the letter to his community says, “God is love.” If we know love then we know God, if we know love we know Christ. It is a beautiful grace, God doesn’t depend on our intelligence or knowledge for us to become Christian, a follower of Jesus. It is how God attracts and keeps people with intellectual challenges, special needs and developmental problems. No matter what our knowledge or intelligence level we all know love. We are modeled love by our mothers and fathers in a normal relationship; we get love from siblings and friends, we can see love modeled in many ways. Once we know love, we know God. It is a beautiful connection made Communion.
We read in the gospel of John, “I am the way, the truth and the life.” (14:6) and we conclude that Jesus is telling us I am the ONLY way. God has a plan for all to come to Him and we can see that love is one of the most prevalent ways to God.
