His divine power has bestowed on us everything that makes for life and devotion, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and power. 2 Peter 1:3 NABRE
Peter is writing to multiple communities, a letter that could be referred to as a circular letter, read at one assembly than another and another, until all communities have had a chance to hear the letter. In opening Peter is explaining what God has already done for them and us. Through God’s power we have been granted everything we need to make a spiritual life of devotion. We can think of it as; when we have a desire to pray, it is God in us giving us the desire to pray. God uses divine power to give us everything we need for a godly life, a devoted life that pushes us to practice a way of life pleasing to God. God’s power came to us through Jesus who shared knowledge of God. Jesus is a mediator, a High Priest, the messenger, the anointed; all to make us aware of everything we can know about God as Father. We are given knowledge of who God is, God’s love for us, our importance to God, how in a very meaningful way we are God’s masterpiece. Jesus shares the power of God and the relationship God seeks with us. The calling is a call to the glory and power of Jesus, recognizing Jesus divine nature, the glory given him by God and the power He has through faith. We are also called to glorify Jesus and God. We are given power through the Spirit to succeed in spreading God’s message, building up faith, prayerfully, glorifying Jesus, who glorifies the Father.
We only need to accept God in us, allowing ourselves to become devoted followers, with knowledge, seeking to give all glory to God. Peter says this is what God has granted us.
