God is king of all the earth. God is the Lord, Most High, a great king. God reigns over all the nations, the earth belongs to God. God is the God of Abraham, princes and all the people. God is proclaimed by the people and given full glory. This is a psalm that praises God and calls for all people to celebrate the king of everything. It begins as a party, all people clap your hands, shout to God with joyful cries. Give a standing ovation and make a holy noise for God who is creator of all. We may not often consider that God should be applauded or celebrated. After all God is God, what does God need? But in fact the creator enjoys the accolades of His creation. What parent doesn’t want to hear nice things from their children? We may think of God as the receptacle of all our needs, and prayers for those needs. But in fact God does enjoy praise. We learn this from the prayer that Jesus taught as it begins with praise. “Our Father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name.” We are saying God you are alive and set apart, you are one to whom there is no other, we praise you, we worship you, and we give you all glory. Jesus knew the Father and so knows that God seeks accolades and love from those whom He created. There is no one that doesn’t want to hear good things. God is no different and wants to know we are pleased and joyful for all we have been given, including life itself.
Take time in your day to thank God for all that you have. Without God we would be and have nothing. Be grateful and make God’s day!
