Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Hebrews 13:8 NABRE
The quoted verse is one of the most famous verses in Hebrews. Just prior to this verse the author wrote about leaders who shared the message of Jesus in order to bring others to faith. Many leaders lived a life of transformation and a martyr’s death. The leaders called by Jesus were imperfect, almost every apostle, the other disciples who followed Jesus, they all needed to have an experience of Jesus to be transformed into true disciples. Following this transformation they went on to dedicate their lives to Jesus’ message which often led them to opposition and death. They lived a life of faith and trust in Jesus, who never changed. Jesus’ promises will never change. Jesus’ message will never change. Jesus will never change. In fact it is Jesus alone who acts as God would like all human beings to act. We can’t be sure how much the human Jesus knew of His divinity, but He lived His entire life as an example of how we are to live. We like those leaders who were transformed, should also be transformed and become imitators of Jesus. From the beginning Christ was present when the world began, in fact everything was created through Him and for Him. (cf. Colossians 1:16) We have the life of Jesus which is well documented so we can know Him. We also have Christ who is resurrected and brings all people to Himself. (cf. Colossians 1:20) Thus we too will be resurrected with Christ. It is Jesus Christ who sets the model for all people for all time.
We are able to witness Jesus Christ so we may act as God wants us to act. As followers of Jesus we must become imitators of Jesus. We must settle on a path to God and never change.
