Psalms 119:93 – April 10, 2019

I will never forget your precepts; through them you give me life. Psalms 119:93 NABRE

We have a long prayer on the word of God in Psalm 119. The quoted verse is in a section that begins by ensuring us that God’s word is settled. Throughout history it has applied and it is not changing. Also God is faithful, He created the earth, it is here for us. Just as God will be here for us and all generations. This present creation will last until God determines the final days. God has built law into creation that will stand. The word of God exists to strengthen us, to give us courage to face our day to day activities. The word readies us to deal with changes or scandal that could trip us up. We will never forget God’s law, and we know through Him we receive life. We are God’s and God will save us, particularly because we consult the word. We will have safety in God when we know the law and follow God’s path for us in the law. Those that read the bible will make good decisions. Many things in life change but God’s Word stands. Reading this psalm from an old covenant perspective we depend on the law to bring us closer to God. But in the new covenant, the one brought to us by Jesus, it is God’s Word that we depend on to become closer to God. With Jesus the law is fulfilled and we can live a good life following the summary of the precepts Jesus has given us; Love God and love others. All of the law is contained in these commands.

With Jesus life is better and we live a better life. Reading the Word of God and holding it in prayer is the best way to know God, Father Son and Spirit. Knowing God we know peace. We should do all we can to get closer to the Word and letting it be contained in our hearts.

Do you spend time each day in God’s word? Are you familiar with the stories of Jesus life?
