Colossians 3:16 – March 12, 2018

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, as in all wisdom you teach and admonish one another, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God. Colossians 3:16 NABRE

Paul in this letter to the Colossians is exhorting the community that they have died to this world and are no longer dominated by its values, influences and agendas. They have died with Christ and have begun to share in His divine life in a special way. Paul looks at their Baptism as stripping off their off self and putting on a new self, as if it was a garment. So they no longer should fall into anger, fury, malice, slander and obscene language. They should be holy and beloved, have heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another. They should let Christ’s peace take control of their hearts and let Christ’s peace exude from the entire community. Paul addressing them as community tells them to let the word of Christ dwell in them, let the wisdom they have flow from one to the other and let their liturgical worship have gratitude and come from their hearts; praising God and influencing one another with their singing of psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. They should let their new self be a joy to all who see them, all who join them in celebration and worship of God. Through their joyful liturgy they can influence one another while praising God.

Being a Christian means we are different than those who are not Christian. A big must do as a Christian is to forgive. Jesus talks about forgiveness more than anything else in His ministry. He wants us to know to be his follower we must forgive regardless of how hurt we feel. Being Christian and forgiving are synonymous.

Do you forgive easily? Is there someone who you are holding a grudge against?
