This homily called Hebrews speaks of a new High Priest sent and conferred by God, namely His Son, Jesus Christ. In the temple system of the Old Covenant the priest served as the one to offer sacrifice to God on behalf of the people and to attend to the Ark of the Covenant. The priest came from the tribe of Levi and they were God’s gracious provision for the people, making it possible for Him to dwell in their midst and bestow forgiveness and His blessing. But in the Old Covenant there is a separation between the priest and the people. The priest approached the holy of God and had to be set apart from all to preserve the holiness. Jesus has come and become a new High Priest, to offer sacrifice and to bring God into our midst. In the Old Covenant the priest needed to offer sacrifice again and again while Christ the new High Priest offers sacrifice once and it is good forever. Of course this sacrifice was Himself standing in as the Lamb of God. With Christ no other priest is needed, he stands as the intercessor for all, he is approachable by all and he stands waiting to save those who approach Him. The system of separation between priest and people is no more, we have a High Priest who stands as the one for us to approach. Jesus is there for everyone wanting to know God and do the will of God.
Take advantage of Jesus, someone who made Himself known as human. Jesus is a priest who is very approachable and wants to aid us in our life. We hear; Jesus will make your life better and will make you better at life. Whatever you need from the Almighty, Jesus should be your first ask.
