Jeremiah 29:13 – December 11, 2018

When you look for me, you will find me. Yes, when you seek me with all your heart, Jeremiah 29:13 NABRE

After the conquest of Jerusalem by the Babylonian Empire some of the people were led away in exile back to Babylon. The prophet Jeremiah sends a letter to the exiles in Babylon. It tells them that they should not expect an early return home, as some false prophets have been telling them. Instead he tells the exiles to live peaceably in the land which they have been deported for it will be seventy years before they can return. They should nourish their hope and seek the Lord: they will find him if they approach. This exile was seen as a punishment for infidelity between the people, their leaders and God. Yet, God does not forget them, he does not leave them to be taken advantage of by false prophets and others who would take advantage of them. God is always able to be found, always ready to help and guide. If we seek God with all our heart, God cannot resist responding. God is seen as all powerful and without fault, but in fact God does have a weakness. It is the same weakness that every parent has, it is their children. The creator wants to do all for the creation.

As the children of God we should know that God can be easily found. But more than easy to be found, God is anxious for us to seek Him. God is ever present and available for us. Why wouldn’t we take advantage of this hope? In the Old Covenant with the nation of Israel God remained vigilant and used prophets like Jeremiah to let them know he was there and would impose himself. God will not impose Himself on us, we must reach out and ask for Him to intervene. Once we do, God, who is love, will let us know how love lives in our life. With God as a regular partner our hope is alive.

Do you seek God? Do you seek God, often?

As the children of God we should know that God can be easily found. But more than easy to be found, God is anxious for us to seek Him. God is ever present and available for us. Click To Tweet
