Proverbs 13:20 – November 3, 2018

Walk with the wise and you become wise, but the companion of fools fares badly. Proverbs 13:20 NABRE

This proverb is from Solomon, son of David and King of Israel. He is considered one of the wisest men because he asked God for wisdom and it was given him. This proverb’s message seems obvious. “Walk with the wise and you become wise, but the companions of fools fares badly.” To walk with someone is to be in a relationship with them, to know one another, to see each other regularly, in fact to be an influence in each other’s life. The proverb is advising that we seek out wise people. Don’t let friendships happen casually, be intentional about who is a friend in your life. Many business people today have mentor’s and business coaches, people with experience that take younger less experienced people under their wing and guide them to growth and wisdom. It is always beneficial to have someone in your life who you trust and can ask about situations or experiences that will help you process things and achieve your best growth opportunities. The opposite is true, if you have relationships with people who are foolish, lack experience, don’t have goals, or aren’t interested in attaining growth, their influence will be on you as well. You will find yourself losing ground and struggling to be fulfilled or to do something meaningful.
