Psalms 119:11 – October 18, 2018

In my heart I treasure your promise, that I may not sin against you. Psalms 119:11 NABRE

Psalm 119 is designed for personal reading or meditation, not to be proclaimed in public, particularly as it is a very long psalm. It is a psalm that helps the prayerful reader to give thanks, to make supplication and to seek wisdom through contemplation of God’s goodness and gift to us all. The section of the psalm with the quoted verse opens with a question; How can a person keep their way pure? Then goes on to respond to the question by advising that listening to God’s promise, hearing God’s word and following all that God teaches is the way. The author says all that God teaches, all of God’s word is in their heart. It is a beautiful response, knowing God so well that everything that is God’s word is kept in the heart. The author continues by saying they will use what is in their heart to avoid sin. Sin is a separation from God. The author’s prayer is to know God in their heart, so that nothing will ever separate them from Him. It is a demonstration of a deep love. Imagine if you have a lover in your life who wants to know everything that will keep you happy, they hold all they can know about you in their heart, their heart which leads their life, solely intending to do only the things to make you happy.

Do you want to know God so well that you do only what is pleasing and keeps you connected? Not only do we show love by following God’s word, we also give ourselves the best chance at our best life by following the ways of God. God is a Father who only wants what is best for His children, therefore to make God’s way our way leads to our happiness.

Do you demonstrate your love by knowing God’s word? Can you fill your heart with all God wants you to know?

Do you want to know God so well that you do only what is pleasing and keeps you connected? Not only do we show love by following God’s word, we also give ourselves the best chance at our best life by following the ways of God. Click To Tweet
